Here's a list of common college application types and their typical deadlines:
- Regular Decision (RD)
- Deadline: Typically January 1st or 15th
- Notification: March to April
- Decision Deadline: May 1st
- Early Decision (ED)
- Deadline: Typically November 1st or 15th
- Notification: December
- Binding: Yes, if accepted, you must attend and withdraw other applications
- Early Action (EA)
- Deadline: Typically November 1st or 15th
- Notification: December to January
- Binding: No, non-binding
- Restrictive Early Action (REA) or Single-Choice Early Action (SCEA)
- Deadline: Typically November 1st or 15th
- Notification: December
- Binding: No, non-binding, but you cannot apply early to other private institutions
- Rolling Admission
- Deadline: Varies by institution, typically from fall to spring
- Notification: Rolling, typically within a few weeks of application submission
- Decision Deadline: May 1st or later, depending on the school
- Priority Admission
